🚗 1. When You Apply

• Title and registration are typically done at the same time.
• You must complete this within 60 days of purchase or establishing Utah residency to avoid penalties.

📄 2. Required Documents

🆕 A. Proof of Ownership

New Vehicle

• Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin (MCO) or equivalent from the dealer.

Used Vehicle

• Signed title from the seller — complete with seller’s signature, date, purchase price, and odometer reading if applicable.
• If the vehicle was titled in another state, you must present the out‑of‑state title.

🪪 B. Odometer Disclosure

• Required if the vehicle is less than 10 years old.
• This may be entered on the title or on a separate disclosure statement.

🚘 C. Proof of Utah Auto Insurance

• Provide proof of current Utah liability insurance in your name.
• The insurance must meet minimum state requirements.

🪪 D. Identification

• Valid driver license or Utah state ID (or another acceptable government‑issued ID).

🛞 3. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspection

• Required only if the VIN inspection is necessary (e.g., for out‑of‑state vehicles with missing or unclear records).
• Utah DMV or law enforcement can perform this inspection.

💰 4. Taxes

• Sales tax, city and county tax are based on the customer’s address
• Reciprocal with CA
• Trade in allowed
• If lease vehicle paid monthly

🧾 5. Title & Registration Together

• Issues your Utah title
• Assigns registration and license plates (or transfers plates if eligible)
• Mails your title certificate (or holds it for your lienholder if financed).

🕒 6. Deadlines & Rules

• Within 60 days of purchase or establishing Utah residency, you must title and register.
• Selling a vehicle: You must title it to the buyer and report the sale if required.
